David Mandel invited by Singapore Government to speak at National Family Violence Networking Symposium
David Mandel has been invited by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to speak at their National Family Violence Networking Symposium (NFVNS). It is a full-day event which provides an opportunity for professionals and practitioners to discuss policies and practice with the view of enhancing systems and services to protect families from violence. To be held on 15th November 2012, the focus of this year’s symposium is “Re-visiting Family Violence from a Multi-Systems Perspective”. After 15 years since the establishment of the family violence networking system in Singapore, it is timely for us to revisit the importance of tackling the issue of family violence from a multi-systems perspective, and recognising that holistic intervention and a coordinated response to family violence is imperative to the management of family violence. The objectives of the symposium are: (i) for practitioners to share knowledge and best practices in family protection work and (ii) to enhance integrated multi-agency partnership in the protection of families in Singapore against violence at home.
In addition, the visit will also including teaching a 2-day pre-symposium skills-based training workshop on the 12th and 14th November 2012. The targeted participants are our inter-agency practitioners and professionals such as family service centre social workers, child protection officers, police officers, Medical Social Workers who are involved in the intervention of family violence cases. The trip will also include a half-day consultation session on 16th November 2012 involving our senior officers involved in policy and planning work for child protection and family violence.
