Gina Vice-Hlavacek, MA, PsyD
Gina Vice-Hlavacek has received both a MA and Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the University of Hartford, completed in 1998 and 2004 respectively. She completed her internship at the Northhampton VA in Leeds, Massachusettes in 2003 with a focus on PTSD and military sexual trauma. Following this experience, Dr. Vice-Hlavacek completed her post doctoral training at the Wheeler Clinic in 2005 with a specific focus on Women’s Trauma issues.
Dr. Vice-Hlavacek has extensive experience in the treatment of substance abuse and trauma issues in general, and also has experience working with children and adolescents at the Wheeler Clinic (1998-2002) in outpatient and intensive outpatient settings with clients who had a history of family domestic violence and substance abuse. Additionally, from 2002-2006 she provided treatment to both sexually and physically violent offenders and survivors of domestic violence at both Northampton VA as well as the Wheeler Clinic.
From 2003-2006, Dr. Vice-Hlavacek’s was active in developing and facilitating women’s trauma groups and advanced women’s trauma recovery groups at the Wheeler Clinic. Furthermore, she has been an active member of the DMHAS’ Trauma Leadership Team. Based on her level of expertise in this area, Dr. Vice-Hlavacek was identified member of the Adult Services Staff who specializes in the treatment of client’s with a history of trauma and domestic violence and provided trainings to new staff regarding effective trauma treatment.
In 2006 and until 2008, Dr. Vice-Hlavacek was a Domestic Violence Expert/Trainer and Consultant to the Department of Children and Families where she provided insight and guidance to child protective staff regarding engagement with family members and the impact of domestic violence on family systems.
In 2008, Dr. Vice-Hlavacek refocused her clinical interests in the private sector providing services to an adolescent and adult population with a specialization on trauma issues. She also continues to provide consultation and is the Learning Coordinator of an Integrated Family Violence program funded by the Department of Children and Families where she provides ongoing supervision and training to agencies offering this in-home based service, and ultimately monitors the functioning of a multisystemic system.
With regard to continuing education, Dr. Vice-Hlavacek is also an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Hartford’s graduate clinical program (Master’s of Psychology and Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology) where she has taught from 2001-2008. |
